deworming with Ivermectin

Hi,

I frequently spend a fortune on Heartgard for my five rescue dogs. I know I can't skip the Frontline, but can you safely substitute Ivermectin paste (1.87) made for horses for the Heartgard? The savings would be beyond dramatic if it worked.
