Question

rabbits

Sent to Pet Experts August 01, 2006 8:34 p.m.

I am going to be baby sitting for my daughter's 5 bunnies. She has water in bottles and the bunnies drink directly from them. However, I am concerned about being able to remove and fill the bottles. Will they drink from a bowl? They are in hutches.

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy), The simple answer is yes, they can drink from bowls. But please allow me to ellaborate.
In the wild rabbits will drink wherever water is available. They generally drink from small puddles or they'll drink the droplets of water on the grass, plants and rocks from light rains or the morning dew. Rabbits also get a lot of water from the vegetables and greens that they eat.
The problem in the cage is that if you put in a bowl, the rabbits will find a way to knock it over. It will also take up valuable surface area which will give the rabbits less area to walk or excercise. They will also kick their bedding or food into the water making it undrinkable and causing you to have to change it multiple times in a day. There are many different types of water bottles available. Some that hang inside and some that hang outside. Some that hang from the top and some that sit on the bottom. Check your local pet store or try some websites online.
