Hi Thomas. How long has this been going on? Are there any raw and/or bleeding areas? Do you have any other birds? Has he ever been taken outside, like for some fresh air and sunshine? Please tell me what kinds of perches your Lovie has and what is the normal dailey diet? Have you noticed any other changes in behavior? Any change in the appearance of his droppings? With this extra information I can give you my best answers and advice. Thanks, Patricia

It started about 5, maybe 6 days ago now. There are no obvious signs of bleeding and/or raw-ness - it seems to be like he's taking a layer of skin off - - it seems crusted at times while he does this, then he cleans off his beak....only to do it again and again. It is not tender at all to him - either on the actual talon or the leg.

He had an activity that he enjoyed alot - he would tear up the paper in the bottom of the cage, making a place for him to 'hide' and play (we were careful to change the paper often so that he would not contract any germs from droppings) - he has since stopped this and taken up the talon chewing.

His diet has consisted of his 'normal' seed/feed (moulting feed also) - - this has not changed at all in the 2 (3?) years we have had him. He also gets the occasional fresh brocolli, carrot and apple treats. No change there either.

We have always retated his perchs around - including rope, wood and plastic of various sizes and thicknesses - - no change either.

We bring him outside every once in a while - mostly he sits by an open door (screened) and chirps with the outside birds. We have an addition bird - a parakeet that is about 5 years old (we've had him before the lovebird).

We can see no additional changes in his behaviour. HELP!!
