Vomiting can be due to a number of reasons. I will list some for you.
Over growth of bacteria such as helicobacter

Something ingested such as bones, pieces of toys, socks, etc which could become lodged in the stomach or intestine

Hernia in the diaphragm

If you are referring to your pet coughing and then "vomitinng" mucous it would be likely that your pet has some form of bronchitis.
Your pup does need to see the doctor to rule out the above mentioned causes of the vomiting. I am very concerned as your pet is also losing weight. I would take care of this as soon as possible.
You should also have his stool checked for parasites if that has not been done already.
Best of luck to you and let me know if i can assist you further.

Reply to michele's Post: His vomiting has stopped and his appetitie has returned,he does have a tendency to eat things he shouldnt, especially when he goes outside, there are a lot of stray cats that come into our yard.I will keep monitoring his weight and health. Can allergies cause this?He also tends to sneeze a lot.

Allergies in dogs will usually have symptoms of itching or scratching. It is possible that the food you are feeding him does not agree with him. Science diet makes a Sensitive Stomach formula which you may want to consider gradually switching to and see if it cuts back on his vomiting and occasional diarrhea. If you can't find the Science diet, you can try a lamb and rice formula. Make sure keep a close eye on him, as if he does eat something that he can't pass, he will get an intestinal blockage.
As far as the sneezing goes, dogs can sneeze when they have a cold, they can also sneeze from dust, household cleaners, or anything that can irritate the nasal passages.
I do suggest that you get him checked as well as having his stool cheked to rule out parasites. Best of luck to you and let me know if I can assist you further.
