The pads of my boarder collie's paws are bleeding from running on pavement. We have washed these areas thoroughly but he is uncomfortable. Can we give some tylenol or motrin?

Please do not give your dog motrin it is very dangerous for dogs. Enteric asprin-like ecotrin is one answer but use it with food and with caution. It can cause digestive upset. One pill for a 40 lb dog 2x a day. But it should be for no more then a day or two without Vet advice. It is much harder on dogs digestive system then people.

I would check out a couple of things. I have had luck with natural oinments from the health food store with Calundula and other healing herbs. She needs to keep from injury while healing.

Also, does she have dry skin? She may need a high quality dog food and a supplement. My boarder collie mix had a lot of skin problems if she did not get oil. I would recommend flax seed oil that is dated and kept cold. It goes bad. It is used to treat severe skin problems in England. Found in any health food store. Also dog food is important. Other options are olive oil or dog skin supplements found in pet stores.

Any dog food should be meat based. Purina One is the only dog food from grocery store that fits that. Look for corn and soybeans on the label. Dogs can't digest that.

Better are foods like Nutro or even Avoderm which is very good for healthy coats.

Border Collies are very active so I would keep her on grass and carpet for awhile until she improves. They also don't like to complain so when they do it is something to deal with right away.
