Question

elevated liver enzymes in a 15 yr old Boston Terrier ...

Sent to Pet Experts January 27, 2006 1:17 p.m.

elevated liver enzymes in a 15 yr old Boston Terrier male, that has been on Derramaxx 25mg.for 6 months. Vet recommends repeating bloodwork every month if I want to continue his Rx. but this animal is shy, nervous, and blind. He doesn't do well going to vet, but needs the relief he gets from the Derramaxx.
How concerning is it for a dog this age to have elevated LE's
Enough to put him through this? or is there a non prescription alternative for his arthritis. He weighs 27 lbs. Thanks

You might do better with Adequan shots (injectible glucosamine) and then follow up with glucosamine tablets like Cosequin or Glycoflex for his arthritis problems.
Depending on how cold it is near you a heated pet bed may also help him and swim therapy might help with joint mobility and pain too if the swimming or walking is in warm water.
The Deramaxx may be hurting his liver.
Talk to your vet about alternatives including using Ascriptin buffered aspirin in limited doses instead of the Deramaxx.
Hope this helps you!
