Question

Distemper

Sent to Pet Experts September 13, 2005 3:27 p.m.

I have a 4 year out westin terrier mix that I adopted from a rescue and was treated for Kennel cough. He then started with the eye discharge, nasal drip, crust around the nose and loss of balance in the hind legs. We started him on Naxcel injections for 14 days and saw a great improvement. No more discharge in the eyes, but eyes stayed blood shot. Nose cleared up with little crusting on the nose. Loss of balance improved 100%. Then we ran a urine test and it came back positive for Distemper. Is there anything we can do to prolong his life? Is there any hope of him living? We also have an 11 year old dog at home with the rescue that has had all of his shots. Should we be concerned about our 11 year old?
