HI, I JUST BOUGHT NEW PUPPY AT A PET STORE IN ESCONDIDO CA, HE IS AN ITALIAN GREYHOUND(TOY GREYHOUND) HE SEEMS TO BE ENERGENTIC, HE IS DRINKING AND EATING. I BOUGHT HIM LAST SATURDAY NIGHT SEPT 10,2005 AT ABOUT 8PM. AS ALL PUPPIES, HE SLEEPS ALOT. THIS MORNING I GOT UP AND TOOK HIM OUT SIDE TO HAVE A BOWL MOVEMENT, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT AS SOLID AS THE DAY BEFORE. AS THE DAY WORE ON, EVERY TIME HE PASSED BOWEL, IT WAS RUNNIER, THEN ABOUT HALF WAY THROUGH THE DAY HE HAD DIARIAHA WITH ONE TINY LITTLE CLOT OF BLOOD ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PENCIL ERASER. JUST NOW AT 8:36 PM 9/13 HE HAD A BOWEL MOVEMENT ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER AND IT WAS ALL BLOOD, DARK LIKE IT WAS A LITTLE OLD BUT VERY DARK RED. THE DOG IS GUARANTEED BUT ONLY WITH A VET IN ESCODNIDO, DO I NEED TO TAKE HIM TO EMERGENCY OR IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS BREED????? I HAVE FREE VET CARE FOR 100 DAYS. THANK YOU SUE MCKNIGHT

If he seems energetic, eating and drinking well, it may just be an internal parasite problem - not unusual to find in a pet store pup. He should see the vet he is assigned and also bring a stool sample with you so they can check for parasites. Some common parasites are coccidia, giardia, roundworms, whipworms and hookworms. The vet will dispense medications according to the test results, as each type of parasite requires a different medication.
