Concerned Pet Owner!!

My puppy (Gordy), is a 5 month old chihuahua, and recently I noticed that he has been forming dark circles around his eye. In addition, he doesn't have much of an appetite, and his stool is sometimes runny or really soft. I am really worried. I have switched from tinned food to home cooked meals because he seems too prefer it. Should I revert to tinned food/ and dry food, and are their other possible ailments that he might be experiencing?
