Unknown illness

I would like to know if you have any idea of what this could be. About 2wks ago, my friend purchased this 6wk old dauchund puppy. She didn't have her shots yet, but was in perfect health until about 4 days ago. She started vomiting and having her fecal matter slightly runny. I thought that it might be parvo, so I went over there yesterday(3 days after sickness), and she could hardly stand at all, her gums were white, she would whine when touched at all, and when placed on her back, she barely had enough strength to move her leg, much less turn over. She was 3lbs, but by the 3rd day, she had lost about a lb, and looked skeletal. About 4hrs after I left, she called me saying she had passed away. She said that before she passed, she was gasping for air, but couldn't get it. Her tongue came out as she was gasping, and it started to turn purple. She wouldn't eat, so she didn't choke on anything, and right before she died, her tongue was dark purple. I have worked at our animal shelter, and with dogs alot, but have never seen anything like this. Please help me. I need to know if you think it may be contagious, because she has a 4mth old puppy, and 2 large adult dogs in the house too. Thank you in advance.
