i have a 12 week teacup poodle who was diagnosed with parvo on sunday. He was taken to the vet that same night and started with IV fluids and antibiotics. It appeared that he was reacting well since there was no more vomitting and he was eating well on monday mornign and monday night. As of tuesday he had a relapse but this time he just became extremely lethargic. He is still in the hospital and has now been given a plasma transfussiona as well as timaflu which just started last night. It is now thrusday evening and no signs of getting better or worse. He still vomits but not vere frequently. Same goes for the diarrhea. Should I still keep my hopes up or should I start thinking about putting him to sleep? Is there a good chance that he will make it?
Thanks
Carol, CT

If he is steady state that is better than deterioration. If he was only getting worse after the plasma I'd suggest letting him go.
Poodles are determined little guys and nursing might pull him through.
The best person to give you odds is the vet treating him.
You can read about parvo here
www.marvistavet.com/html/canine_parvovirus.html
and it gives treatment suggestions which might give him more of a chance.
Hope this helps you and that the little guy makes it!
