6-7 month old german shepard w/diareah

Sent to Pet Experts August 04, 2005 12:51 p.m.

my german shepard (approx. 6-7 mos.) has had diahreah. the 1st day i withheld food, he was getting better by the next day. the in the evening of that day, after giving him small amts. of lamb and rice dog food, the diahreah came back. he wont drink water but will do an ice cube here and there. is this just a virus? there is no blood in the stool, it has been dark brown then latley yellow. he has not had another bowel movement since 8 a.m. but i am withholding food again. please help, we found him on a highway , we saw a car dump him out and then drove off. he was about 3 mos. old he almost got hit by a semi. we have grown to love him quite alot

Has he been properly vaccinated? Has he been checked for internal parasites lately? Any vomiting?

thank you, i do have a fear of parvo as i almost lost a puppy we got from a puppy mill to it, however the new treatment does sound less scary.
i will also try the boiled meat and rice instead of the canned and the pedalite...

Just ease him back to the regular food if the bland diet helps him.
Do check for parasites - just drinking from a puddle could give him a protozoan like giardia.
