My blue fronted amazon
Sent to Pet Experts August 08 02:07 PM

My blue fronted amazon has a liquid with her feces that look like the orange on your webpage along with solid dark curls. Is my bird sick? I do give her avian prepared papaya on occasion. I haven't noticed a correlation between the feedings and the droppings though.

Reply to Patricia's Post: I think that is what has me so concerned about this problem. I will give her some bits of papaya and less than 2 to 3 hours later the orange appears.
Other times her feces are anywhere from light green to dark green and almost always white urine. Sometimes liquid, sometimes not.
She eats Harrisons Adult, some fresh fruit, organic seed from Golden Feast and fresh cracked nuts.

Okay, thanks for that extra information. Going only by what you are describing, the droppings sound normal. When they have fresh fruit like that, it is expected that it will make a change in the droppings similar to what you describe. But if it goes back to the normal green/white/clear liquid after the fruit has had time to clear her system, that is as it should be. "Normal" will have the thin green feces, sometimes drops into a curled configuration, with the white urates and the mostly clear urine. I'm going to give you some links to a lot more in depth information about the droppings that I hope will be helpful. However, I'm a firm believer in paying attention to our gut feelings when it comes to our parrots. If you feel there is cause for concern, don't hesitate to have your avian vet run a quick test or two on a sample. I don't see anything in your description to be cause for alarm but it's your parrot and you know her best. If the droppings worry you and/or if you see any change in any of her normal behaviors, then a couple test could be worth it for your peace of mind. I hope this helps but if you have any more questions, just let me know. Patricia
