Is this a Lilac Crowned Amazon? If not, exactly what kind of parrot is he? If he is 12 years old then I take it you are not his first owner? Do you know much about his past with his previous owner? Was there any plucking behavior before? Are you seeing any actual bald spots or could he just be preening? Have you seen him pull any feathers out?

Hi
Yes he is a Lilac Crowned Amazon. We have been told that he is about 16-18 yrs old. I got him form a lady that rescues animals from bad homes. He was not taken care of and was beaten with gloves form his first owner. We have since then got him to come to us, hang out on the couch with us and feed out of our hand. Juat resently he started the preening. he is not bald anywhere but on the back of his neck and between the wings is real oily. pull feathers out he has done that few times. I have had my vet tell me that it is because of stress, but as of right know i live in a smaller home and was told that they like to be around people, so there for i have not moved him to a different room. Help me i dont want my bird to be sick.
thank
mona
