My blue and gold parrot is pulling out her feathers. She is really mutilating herself. I was looking at her closely and there appears to be a lump forming around her throat. Is this an irritation or infection from pulling her feathers out or unrelated?

Optional Information:
Age: 11; Female; Breed: blue & gold macaw

Already Tried:
made an appointment to see a vet. Added vitamins to her diet. Bought a spray in case there are mites. I don't see any though.

How long has she been doing this and is she actually damaging her skin yet? Does the lump seem to go all the way around her neck, only in the front or where is it located? I'm really glad you have the vet appointment already set up but I'll see if I can help you and her in the meantime, if you can help me with that additional information. In the meantime though, do not, under any circumstances, put any kind of spray on her. It will not do any good and may make matters worse. If you will get me that information, I'll do my best to get back to you first thing in the morning. Thanks, Patricia

Thank you so much Patricia,

She has been doing this about a week. The lump was rather large last night and wrapped from ear to ear. Not all the way around. Thank you regarding the spray. I was thinking maybe some bug is irratating her. She has bled a couple of times when pulling out a feather, but overall her skin doesn't look bad.
