He is going to the bathroom just fine and his poop is good. Lots of feathers are missing now and he is standing funny that is the only way I noticed because his behavor has not changed. HELP

Hello. This may very well be an emergency and for the moment, please do not try to handle the bird any more. Can you clear up for me if this a male or a female and are you absolutely positive? If you are unsure at all, please look at the cere (the bulbous area above the beak where the nostrils are located) and tell me what color it is. Also, how sure are you of the age? Did the bird come from a pet store and did they tell you it was only 3 months? Can you describe the "hard stuff" your cleaned off" Did it look like droppings and/or did it appear to have any blood in it? Was it sort of clear or slightly cloudy looking like mucus? Do you already have, or do you know of a true avian vet that you can get to if needed? If you don't, I'll be able to maybe help with that as well. Let me know as soon as as possible as your bird's life may depend on it. Thanks, Patricia

My little Rabbit (parakeet) was born in my care so I know he is almost 4 months old now. The top of his beak is blue. I was out in the hospital for a few weeks so I was unable to respond. The spot that is sore looks like where his boy hood would be and it is a little bloody. The hard stuff I cleaned off was not poop because this is above his vent. He has energy eats well plays bathroom no problem poop good. Stands alittle funny sometimes and iches it. Feathers good wieght good I just dont know. He is my boy and hangs with me all the time.

Okay, thanks for the information. This means we are now a little over three weeks past when you first noticed this. The blue cere would seem to say that you definitely have a young male. Now that I know that and the age, that rules out my first suspicion of a possible egg binding. Since it has been this long, has there been any change in the appearance of the spot? Has there been another accumulation of whatever the hard spot was? Is so, is he still picking at it and still sitting funny? Does he seem to be picking at any other areas on his body or having any feather loss? Can you look closely and tell me if you see any indication of broken skin, a wound or any kind of injury? I hate to delay further but with this much time gone by, it's going to be important to know of any changes, or the lack of any change in the condition. Do his droppings still appear normal and is he still eating and drinking. If you can give me a current update as of today, we will go from there. Thanks. Patricia

Droppings normal eating and drinking playing just fine. Since I very first wrote you the spot had changed it is more central and he does have what seems like an open wound althou it looks like it is where his boy hood is (whatever you call that) the feathers are missing right around that area but not anywhere else on his body. He is not standing funny anymore and he does not seem to pick at it like he was but it does look soar. It is also very hard around the whole area which does not seem normal to me. All in all it does look better than it did but it still worries me.
