Question

kennel cough

Sent to Pet Experts July 29, 2005 6:51 a.m.

My 11 week old maltese has a bad case of kennel cough.
I am giving her the standard vet meds. Would a natural homeopathic remedy called collidial silver harm her?

I don't think it would harm her though I am not sure it would do much good either.
Kennel cough virus usually takes about 10 - 14 days to pass through the system and treatment is just supportive so that the dog does not get secondary problems such as pneumonia with it.
You might find if she is really congested that bringing her in the bathroom and running the shower with the bathroom door shut will help break that up as the steam is good for that.
Hope this helps you!

Thank you very much for getting back to me.
I know Collodial Silver for humans is excellent at killing viruses for humans, as well as bacteria
because I have used it with my family for years.
I just don't want to give her anything that would be toxic for her, because I know that some natural remedies for humans can be lethal for pets. So when you say you don't think, I am uncomfortable. Do you   know or think? I am not being sarcastic, I am just paranoid because we just lost our baby Yorkie and it all started with Kennel Cough - complications within 24 hrs and hundreds of dollars at the vet during that time didn't help.
Thank you and I hope you understand.

I said "I don't think" because its not anything I would ever use but I do know people who will and have with no problems used it.
If there were actual silver in colloidal silver I would not use it on anything as heavy metal poisoning is not my choice to do to any living thing. However, depending on where you get your product, and how it is made, there isn't much of anything other than perhaps purified water in the colloidal products so it should do no harm.
Extra hydration helps in lots of illnesses so purified water might help.
There are some nasty strains of kennel cough around including the one that swept greyhound kennels this year shutting down tracks and killing dogs in the space of a day so I understand your concerns.
You can read about using colloidal silver in dogs here http://www.caninenaturalcures.co.uk/silver.htm

I'm just not sure I've ever seen it make any difference in dog or human when used.
