Toby and boarding
Sent to Pet Experts July 03 09:02 AM

We picked up our dog Toby yesterday after boarding him for one day. He was constantly trying to swallow like he had something stuck in his throat. We took him to an emergency room for pets and the vet removed a piece of grass that was stuck near his tonsil. However, he still trys to clear his throat occasionally and is very lathargic. He has no appetite and drinks very little water. He has been eating grass, which is not his normal behavior. He just had a spell where he was coughing like he was trying to clear his throat.

He probably picked up a virus called kennel cough that dogs can catch from each other. Its a bit like our common cold.
You can read about this here
www.marvistavet.com/html/kennel_cough.html
Try giving him plain pedialyte in his water bowl instead of water or using a mix of 1 liter of water with 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to encourage him to drink more as fluids help.
If Toby is a large dog then you may also want to read the symptoms of bloat here - this is a far more dangerous issue
www.marvistavet.com/html/bloat.html
and it can be brought on by stress from things like boarding.
If the symptoms sound like bloat to you then you need to get him to a vet as soon as you can.
Hope this helps you!
