Question

Flea, Heartworm, etc medication combination

Sent to Pet Experts August 13, 2006 2:21 p.m.

I have a 13 year old 116 pound Rat Terrier (in very good health, except for arthiritis in her shoulders). What is the best monthly combination or series of meds for heartworm, fleas, etc.
I have used Advantage, Sentinel, Program, etc. But I am confused as to what combination is best.
Thank you.

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy). Thank you for asking your question on Just Answer. The other experts and I are working on your answer. By the way, it would help us to know:

-Are you in an area where fleas and ticks are a big problem?
-Does your dog spend much time outdoors (hiking, camping, wandering, etc.) or is she mostly indoors?
-Has she had any trouble with any of the products in the past (vomiting with any of the oral meds, hair loss or irritation with any of the topicals)?

Thank you again for trusting us with your problem. Please reply as soon as possible so that we can finish answering your question.

I made a mistake in my question - she is 16 pounds.
Now we do not have infestation and she is not outside very much. She has never had any trouble with any of the products.
