Kennel Cough

Can a dog get kennel cough without being in a kennel. Our lhasapoo has been coughing for a week now and she has not been in a kennel. We did take her with us on an RV trip to a campground in Cape Cod, Ma. Could she have picked up something there. What can we do for her cough?

Yes kennel cough can be contracted in other settings, were there other dogs in the campground?
How old is your dog? Describe the cough? And is your dog on heartworm medication?

Response to DanaDVM's Post: Yes, there were other dogs at the campsite, but our dog did not interact with them, although she did a lot of sniffing at the site. Laurel is 12 1/2 years old. The cough is a dry cough and occurs more often at night. She is on heartworm medication and she has had all her required shots.
