I gave my 1 1/2 year old Yellow Lab his heartworm medicine ...

Sent to Pet Experts March 01, 2006 1:47 p.m.

I gave my 1 1/2 year old Yellow Lab his heartworm medicine and flea medicine (the heartworm medicine is oral and the flea medicine is topical) last night and awoke this morning to him having diarhea for what looked like all night. It was runny and brown, but there was ALOT of it. It looked like he was walking and doing it for some reason. I have given him the same dose and brand for a while... is there any reason I should worry?

I would consider swapping flea prevention and heartworm prevention brands and no longer give them on the same day. If you are using a flea med like Bio Spot this could be the culprit.
I would discuss this with your vet who may have good ideas on which meds to swap to.
I think the dog was 'over poisoned' and that even though he has tolerated it before he may be becoming sensitive to the meds being used.
Hope this helps you!
