My daughter starting taking care of a friend's hamster ...

My daughter starting taking care of a friend's hamster a few days ago. The small, but not thin, and I believe young, female hamster has its tongue stuck out all the time. It isn't literally stuck out -- The tongue looks enlarged to me within the mouth. The hampster seems able to close its mouth at times and seems otherwise healthy and alert -- though I think the eyes look a little weary. Please help! Thanks, Doug
