He may have rear leg paralysis. This usually happens if the cage is on the small size and the hamster is lacking in exercise. Do you feel his cage may be on the smaller size compared to cages you've seen for sale in stores?

Reply to Christina A.T.'s Post: I guess the cage is a bit smaller. Is this a reversible condition? would you suggest we go to a vet? I am satisfied with your answer and will accept it upon this reply. Thanks.

There are actually several different causes of hind limb paralysis that are semi common in hamsters. The first is called cage paralysis: the cure is to put him in a larger cage and try to help him to get more exercise and also you can get him vitamin D and E supplements.
The second is referred to as hind limb paralysis: usually seen in Syrian males around 6 months of age and is usually a hereditary condition and there is no cure. However, hind limb paralysis can be from constipation or falling.
If you are unsure of what scenario best fits your hamster, you should visit the vet to diagnosis and treat properly.
