My hamster is over 2 1/2 years old and lately has started losing weight and slowing down. He started losing hair around one of his ears a month ago but it seemed to stop. So i just thought it was due to being older. This morning his eyes are swelled shut and no vets are in. He also is starting to smell. Is it old age or something else?

It is most likely old age as their average life span is two years. Take a warm wet cloth and place it on his eyes to give him some relief. This my allow him to be able to open them. Just keep him warm and as comfortable as you can and if he lives until Monday I would have a vet humanly put him down so he does not starve to death.
