(Not a Pet Question?)

guinea pig teeth
Sent to Pet Experts April 29 01:06 AM

my guinea pigs teeth are all chipped. He's very young, and has no trouble eating. I just figured that petco sold me a cavy that was not ready to stop breast feeding. I feed him timothy hay and guinea pig food. I put a rock with a rough surface in his cage because his nails are getting kinda long, but his teeth chipped before the rock. He squeeks happily all the time when i play with him. Is he okay?

You should consult your vet immediately if your guinea pig suffers from a broken or chipped tooth. The tooth will eventually grow back but you may have to make special feeding arrangements in the meantime.  The good thing about Cavy teeth is that they are always growing.  Any special diet that you have to feed will be temporary.

As long as he's eating fine and there's not blood showing on the tooth then he should be ok. Their teeth grow constantly and sometimes, depending on the diet, need to be trimmed. I would keep an eye on him and as long as he's acting and eating fine then he should be ok.
