My 6 year old guinea pig has a large tumor on his underbelly. Our Vet said that
surgery could be fatal and that surgery could be fatal. He has had this tumor for
approximately 6months. Over the past month it has increased in size to that of a
golf ball. His appetite has been normal, walking has been difficult though. We have
been praying that it is not malignant, and since his behavior and eating has been basically the same, we felt that it was probably not cancerous. Well 2 days ago
he began to become restless and jumpy. We then noticed that he had been biting at
it. I called our vet who's receptionist said that it may have been itching him. Unfortunately the doctor will not be in his office until tomorrow night and was unavailable
today. In the mean time we have been cleaning with hydrogen peroxide and benedine, and dressing the wound with gauze and bandages. There is a gaping hole that is bleeding and we noticed that it increased in size. He is still bleeding, but not profusely.

My question is what can be done. Is there some topical ointment that we can use or in
cases like this will the sore area heal. We saw a lot of fluid in his bedding yesterday, that is how we became aware of the bite wound. The bleeding seemed to stop for the most part of yesterday, until tonight. Can this wound be treated and stitched up. We have
a lot of hope and faith that he can survive this, because the tumor size has decreased by about 50% once the fluids escaped. However we are concerned of possible infection. Hopefully nature will take its course and he will be ok. We just want to know what we can do in the mean time to prevent thepossibility of infection and stop the
bleeding.

Thank you for your help!
