My guinea pig had an abscess on his cheek and we took him to the vet to have it lanced. When the vet did that, it didn't imediately get any smaller, but did shrink over a week of warm compressing and antibiotics. Now (about two weeks after the lancing) the abscess is getting larger and has dropped to down near his neck. He doesn't act like it hurts, the open wound is closed, and we are still giving him antibiotics. The vet suggested that we have it surgically removed, but we just don't have the $500+ to have this done. Is there anything else i can do? Is this harmful to him?
