My three year old guinea pig who has had his teeth trimmed by a vet, but we just discovered yesterday that he has broken off the two front teeth, will they grow back soon enough or should we begin feeding him baby food (carrots, plums, etc.) ? He has not eaten the little carrots and pieces of apple that we have usually given him and he gobbled up.. Thank you , Billie Younger

At this point I would suggest chopping his normal food as finely as possible. You may have to resort to hand feeding him to get him to eat. If he is unable to use his water bottle, you may have to offer him water through a syringe. I would not give him baby food as this may disrupt his bowel movements and give him diarrhea. Make sure he stays hydrated and if you want to you can put a little bit of pedialyte in with his water. If the break is ragged, you may want to contact your vet as this can cause damage to his tounge and roof of his mouth..the vet can file the raggedness down. If you have a small food chopper, it is best to use that to cut his food into tiny not quite puree'd pieces. You can get one at Walmart for under $10.00 and it really comes in handy. Make sure you are giving him vitamin C supplements as this will ensure proper teeth health, by giving him a quarter of a 100mg tablet. Hope this answers your questions and your pig gets better quickly.
