Question

my daughter's guinea pig stuffs her mouth full with

Sent to Pet Experts December 05, 2005 10:55 a.m.

my daughter's guinea pig stuffs her mouth full with the hay on the floor of her cage. She then cariies it up to the top in her wheel and spits it out a little at a time as if she is trying to find one certain thing. then she runs and runs in the hay until she gets tired of that hay and she does it all over again. She also eats her own feces. is that normal? i am afraid that she is going to choke when she has all that food in her mouth. its kinda gross watching her do this. why is she doing this and is any of this behavior normal? is it okay to wash her b/c my daughter bathes her in the sink sometimes with mild soap. she starts to smell from the cage i think. if its okay to bathe her, how often should it be done? how much food is too much? we are also wondering how long she will live and how big she will get. she was a gift from a friend and as far as i know she was a baby when we got her and we have had her now for one year. we were told that it was a girl. we call her sprinkles. will she need a companion so she won't be lonely and if she does, should it be a male or female?
