My gerbil has a scent gland tumor. He is 2 years old and the vet says he can perform the surgery to try to remove it, but can't guarantee he gets it all or that it won't come back. Also, there is the risk of just doing the surgery itself. If I don't have it done, they think he'll just have that open sore on his tummy and may get an infection and could just die from the growing tumor. I guess my question is which may be worse - putting him through the surgery or having him live with an open sore and maybe die from it. I'm just looking for guidance based on someone with more experience with animals than I've got.
