I am so sorry to hear about your baby. It sounds like you have done a wonderful job with it living to such an age. . Most ferrets don't make it much past 8 years. To answer your question about what will happen is difficult. It often depends on what parts of the brain are affected. Motor skills may go first, having trouble standing, walking, just moving in general. In some cases loss of site and hearing are first and in others loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting occur. Sometimes there is pain and sometimes not. I know it can be a tough decision but you should consider what you want to do for this little guy. Many times people are told that if there isn't any pain there is no suffering, this is something you will have to look at and determine for yourself. There are many opinions about this, no pain, no suffering, not eating, wasting away, body shutting down because of toxins building up in the system, dulling pain receptors. The choice you need to decide upon is what memories you want to have. It may be best to give peace at the end instead of having to remember the other things.
