I have a ferret who is in her senior years, shes about 8 or 9 and she has developed a boil like lesion on her side and it could be a bedsore, but its raised about half a inch off the skin and she bites at it and causes it to bleed, is there anything I can do to treat this without taking her to a vet...thanks

Hello,

You can try to trim the hair away from the area and clean with mild soap and water. Then take some Betadine scrub and clean it again, last try some bitter apple to keep your baby form licking at it. Hopefully this will buy you the time for the area to heal and dry up. http://www.bitterapple.com/ If this does not work you may have to get the ara debrieded. sutured and an antibiotic to help the area heal from the inside out.
