8 year old male Lutino Cockatiel and Tumor

I have an 8 year old male Lutino Cockatiel. He has developed a large hump on his back over the last couple of years and has lost his feathers in this area. He seems happy, eats and his droppings appear normal. However, he has become very territorial of his cage and refuses to come out. He will only allow me to pet his head from outside the cage, between the bars. If I put my hand in the cage he screams and he will not come up on my finger. I want to take him in to see a vet but I am having a very hard time getting him out of his cage. I'm just wondering about the occurance of tumors in cockatiels and signs to watch for. Thank You!

Hello. Let me ask a couple questions first. Please tell me what his normal dailey diet has been through the years. Where on his back is the tumor located, close to the neck, between the wings, closer to where the tail feathers begin, etc.? Thanks, Patricia
