There may be raging hormones at work here. I do suggest that you
separate them temporarily. Leaving them together could result in
harm to the female.

Captive male cockatiels have been known to kill their mate because she is not
receptive or because their own sexual energy lacks the natural outlets of nest
selection and defense. Confine the female in a neighboring cage until she is
receptive. Don't forget that mate could also be you; so if you're not willing
to mate, you may also get bitten. Cockatiels are very territorial and may kill
a new addition to their cage or a weak, sick, or new fledgling. They will chew
the head of the bird. Separate the attacked bird and have your veterinarian
examine it.
