Please help. I have two 8 year old Cockatiels who have shared the same cage since they were babies... I have never had a problem until today. My male is attacking my female... He is pecking at her and biting her and chasing her around the cage and he has her cornered in the bottom of the cage. She tries to get away, but he pesters her until she relinquishes to the bottom again. He has been relentless all day. Do I need to seperate them? Please, I appreciate any advice as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Lyn

There may be raging hormones at work here. I do suggest that you separate them temporarily. Leaving them together could result in harm to the female.

Below is more info from: http://groups.msn.com/Cockatiel/aggressionbiting.msnw

"Since your cockatiel is showing extreme aggression to other birds in the case or to its mate, separate them. Captive male cockatiels have been known to kill their mate because she is not receptive or because their own sexual energy lacks the natural outlets of nest selection and defense. Confine the female in a neighboring cage until she is receptive. Don't forget that mate could also be you; so if you're not willing to mate, you may also get bitten. Cockatiels are very territorial and may kill a new addition to their cage or a weak, sick, or new fledgling. They will chew the head of the bird. Separate the attacked bird and have your veterinarian examine it.
