These growths sound unusual and it is hard to tell you what is causing them without seeing the bird. I can give you an idea of what could be the cause. Some birds have mites that live on their face (called Knemidocoptes or scaly leg and face mites). These mites cause what looks like coral or spongy like bumps to occur around the beak. I have also seen birds with abscesses around their beak that can look like the lesions you describe. These are caused by infection inside the mouth of the bird and we treat them with antibiotics. It is also possible to see skin tumors in a 12 year old bird. All of these possibilities can be evaluated by an avian vet to give you a definitive answer. Please let me know if you have more questions about this. Best wishes.

The best answer to any question regarding a sick pet will come from your own veterinarian, however, I am happy to provide information based on my experience.
