My canary has a round growth on his back between his wings. He is otherwise healthy, happy and sings beautifully. I can't afford the vet at this time maybe soon. Are tumers common in canaries?

Feather cysts, baldness and benign fatty tumors are all very common in canaries. One thing you can do, is add supplements to his diet. Some Vets recommend higher intake of vitamins and Vit E,C,zinc and fatty acids (oils) to promote good feather and skin health. Do not use tap water as the chemical in it can be hard on their livers. Try spring water and bird supplements. It may be that the body will resolve this over a period of time. If you canary likes dark lettuce, grated carrot or apple, that would give him a lot of vitamins as well. Just remember to not cook with any Teflon pans or have your bird near a gas oven when you do do. Good luck. If you have any more questions, please let me know!!
