Question

Potential Toe Loss

Sent to Pet Experts March 25, 2005 6:23 p.m.

My kitty has a nailbed infection that has spread to the toe bone. I believe it was called Osteo Peritonitis. I cannot cross reference this Osteo Peritonitis. My cat is on antibiotics Clavamox 62.5 now and if the antibiotics do not cure him he might have to have the claw or toe removed. I would like more detailed information about this bone infection and are the connecting bones at risk too? Is this fungal or bacterial? An x-ray seemed to show no breaks, but his first toe is very swollen (and looks way out of alignment) and the toe next to the first is also swollen. She seemed to think he had a crushing blow to his foot.
