Retriever newly developed odor and scratching/biting
Sent to Pet Experts February 21 07:49 PM

My retriever has started to excessively scratch/bite her belly and the skin has turned a blueish/purple color. The skin is leathery to the touch and almost looks retile. Over the last three weeks she has also developed quite an odor and bathing only disguises it for a day or so. We have tried dermo shampoo, olive oil after bathing, benadryl, but nothing works. Nothing in the house has changed, no new food, no new animals or surroundings. What can we do?

The symptoms you describe are all seen in dogs suffering from hypothyroidism.  You will need to have your bet run a blood panel on your dog to verify.

Best of luck and I hope she feels better soon!
