URGENT 4 day old kitty bleeding
Sent to Pet Experts February 14 08:26 AM

my cat had a litter of kittens (4) four days ago. The next afternoon, I noticed one of the kittens had blood on it’s side. I picked it up and it had ahole in it’s side and blood was coming out (not gushing, but still coming out and the wound was open). I asked my 3 boys if anything happened, and one of them said the lamp fell off the desk and fell on the kitties (she had the kitties udner his desk, and when he was looking, he hit the cord and it fell)....anyway. I put some antibiotic ointment on it and wrapped it in gauze and taped it up, hoping it would close on it’s own. We took the bandage off last night (after 3 days) and as soon as it was all unwrapped, the "light pinkish colored liquid" came POURING out...when it was all done coming out, i put more ointment on and covered the wound again. I didnt want to look to closely too see how the wound was as I didnt want to open it any more. I am wondering what you think this pink liquid could be and how concerned I should be, and what I can do, if anything to get this kitty healthy. I appreciate your help as soon as possible...thanks

It sounds like the wound is draining and you need to see the vet.  These small animals are so fragile that you should not take any chances.

Kittens need to see the vet within the first few weeks of life anyway for a regular health exam.

This would be a good time to think about having mom spayed as soon as she's done nursing, too.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: I had a feeling that was what is was, but my concern, and i dont want to sound uncaring, s I LOVE animals, is that I am low income, and cannot afford a huge vet bill, especially for a kitty I will be giving away.....you dont think this will get better on it's own?

Hi There,
You can try closing the wound with a drop of crazy glue, (sold to veterinarians as 'Nexaband'). Despite the criticisms that I will receive from everyone on this website, that it the most probable course of treatment as suturing the wound would be costly and of no better benefit. I have fixed many wounds with plain old crazy glue, (Ihave even used it on horses that I don't want to scar with sutures). You do not need a sterile product as the wound is already contaminated. A single drop should do it.
Good Luck,
Dr. Katie
