Question

my 8yr old akita

Sent to Pet Experts January 07, 2005 3:05 a.m.

I have an 8 year old akita, she is having a hard time passing her stool. The stool is so hard and compact she cries with pain. We have tried changing her food we are now giving her food called blue, a more natural food for dogs. She has been to the local vet who insisted the problem was because she ate a couple of chicken bones out of the trash. He gave her an X-ray which showed no problems. I told him that we just moved from the country into town. She went from running and hunting every day(she probably ate at least 2 dead or fresh animals a day) to eating strictly dog food and even though we have a big back yard and take her for walks regularly it can’t compare to the 28 acres she used to have. These changes seem to me like they could effect her digestion, but the doc felt like it was the chicken bones. I don’t know if they make stool softners for dogs or not that seems like that could be the ticket. Thanks for your help. chris nash

We actually use stool softners from human medicine. Do you have any at home and if so tell me the name and MG. There are other changes in diet that I can suggest. Did the vet give you medications?
