killing of small animals by housecat

My 2 year old cat has recently begun killing birds,mice,moles and rabbits.she attempts to bring them into the house,but until today had only toyed with the bodies.Today we found her eating the body of a freshly killed rabbit.What is the reason for this behavior?We have had her for a little over a year and she is otherwise a very "domestic" and affectionate cat.Besides the fact that this feral behavior is disturbing,we are concerned with the transmission of diseases.What should we do?Thanks!
