Chronic staph and eye infections

My dog has an ongoing battle with staph skin infections and eye infections. Autoimmune diseases have been ruled out. She is 12 years old and is on a strict diet of SDiet WD (for 7 years--formerly on regular SDiet. Could she have developed a food alergy?

One of the primary rule outs should be food allergy, especially adult onset and older than 6 years old. Plus, ruleout of endocrine based diseases lowering her immunity to simple staph (hypothyroidism).
She needs to be worked up by your vet, and if they have and not reached any conclusion...request referral to a dermatologist.

I would try Z/D dog food and have a thyroid test if it has not been done...while you wait for a possible referral.

Response to DanaDVM's Post: She has had countless work-ups with varying degrees of elevated white blood counts. I did not know there was such a person as a canine dermatologist; I'll research further with our vet. Is ZD dog food a SDiet product?
