Fleas

We had a indoor outdoor cat who was bringing in fleas by the bus load we had him diped we had a collar on him we went to the vet and got advantage we could not get rid of them.So we got rid of the cat because we have two kids that were getting eaten up by them I could stand in one spot for 10 seconds and have 30 of them on my leg.We got rid of him about a month and a half ago after he was gone we bomded the house and sprayed got rid of most of them but a few are still hagging around.My oldest son is in third grade and has been sent home from school 4 times because he had a flea on him,my question is there any health reasons why they are doing this they say fleas are worse than lice becauce of the way they jump and they dont want other kids getting them I have told them fleas live out side any kid can get them at any time and this is outragous to miss out on education because of a flea.And what can we do to our home to get rid of them
