moving from hawaii to italy the flight will be honolulu

Moving from Hawaii to Italy. The flight will be Honolulu to Houston, Houston to Rome, Rome to Catania. Is it best to fly there in one shot (24 hrs or so) or take a few days break and let the animals out of the kennels before heading to Rome???
