Bengal has allergies?

We have two Bengal cats. We also have a domestic cat and a labrador retreiver, Pushkin, the spotted Bengal, has developed scabbing, itching and balding. His brother, Tolstoy is okay. Although indoor animals, all are on flea and tick control, the Bengals are on Hills Allergen food, (We've tried IV brands also)and the lab doesn't get perfume when groomed. Now I see raw patches on Pushkin. Several trips to the vet for antibiotics and steroids, but I am at my wits end. The "Boys" (Bengals) have their own room during the day and at night since the domestic cat and Tolstoy can't get along. They get evening and weekend playtime out of the room. Tolstoy is now urinating on The lab's bed and laundry when he is out. Guess I have two problems with the Boys, but primarily concerned with the hair loss.

Sometimes skin issues are traceable to thyroid problems or kidney disease as well as allergies.
You might find this site interesting reading on the many causes of 'scabby' cats
www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/mil-derm.html

And depending on the flea and tick control you are using you might try stopping that a month and see if there is any improvement. Not all animals do well with all medical products.

If you are seeing problems on the cats and the dogs then I'd suspect something contagious or a product you use in the house that the animals are sensitive to might be the cause. If its just the one cat then he might just be sensitive to a food, an inhaled item, or again a cleaner or something else in the house. If you've not checked his thyroid function that might be worth doing.
If your regular vet is not helping then I'd suggest seeing a veterinary dermatologist.
Hope this helps you!

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: Thank you. I put all three cats on Feline Advantage Plus 3 months ago to eliminate flea allergies as a possibility. They do have plastic water dishes, so I will change that. Maybe there is something in the Bengals' room that is the culprit. There is not a lot of air circulation in there as last time I left the fan on, I went in the room and Tolstoy was hanging from it as it spun around.   Oh, Bengals. I think I will try keeping him away from that room and his brother (who initially had a mild case of hair loss but recovered -- then Pushkin got a servere case of whatever it is. I made an appt. with a veternarian allergy specialist when he/she comes to Hawaii in September. The website was helpful -- may try a bath if I can survive Pushkin's reaction! Thanks again and will check the tbyroid. Susan

Could be an immune system issue and demodex mange mites.
Just on the off chance it is stress triggered you might try some Feliway cat appeasing pheromone which you can get online or in pet supply stores. Its supposed to reduce stress in cats. Might help with the other cat's marking issues too.
