8 year old dog lifeless, per vet, red blood cells are clotting together, gums are very white, dog stays inside, all shot uptodate, lives in a subdivision, not exposed to ticks, however, my sister does have her lawn sprayed with a chemical for weed control. The dog is an australian shepherd, she is at the emergency vet. clinic this morn.Vet said possible parasite in blood, how do animals in a protected environment contact this type of parasite, the dog lives in complete luxury.

If your dog is not on heartworm prevention it might have heartworms. One mosquito bite from an infected mosquito is all it would take.
Ticks can show up anywhere. The one dog I have with lyme disease got it living in the middle of downtown Boston! Deer ticks are really small and hard to see and mice carry them too not just deer and dogs.
Hope this helps you!

thank you, i am awaiting a call from my sister with the diagnosis from the vet., we noticed last week end when we were there that allie was licking herself and she had just returned from the groomers. my daughter, a vet assistant, noticed and remarked to her auntie. They thought perhaps she was not rinsed completely and possibly shampoo residual was still on her coat.
