Question

swollen testies

Sent to Pet Experts June 05, 2005 1:11 p.m.

I have a beautiful male Shar-Pei that is almost 10 yrs. old He was never neutered but has always been in perfect health. Yesterday I notice that one of his testicles is swollen to the size of an egg. It does not bother him, he is still happy but what could have caused this? There are no vets open today, as it is Sunday, and even if there were I am in dire straits with the money situation. I am hoping that someone that loves animals as much as I do will hopefully will reply. I am very worried about my best friend. Thank you

ACCEPTED Check Mark

There can be a few reasons for this. The first and most common is that the dog has received a trauma to the area. If this is the case, you might see some bruising and swelling.

Another cause might be a testicular tumor or scrotal problem. This will usually have no other symtpoms aside from the swelling.

At this age, I would be very concered about a tumor or other cause.

You should see the vet first thing tomorrow to have it checked out.

Let me know if you still have questions.
