Snapping turtles are typically euthanized at shelters because of the lack of homes.

If the animal came from the wild and can take care of itself, it should be released back into the wild.

If he has been in captivity for a while, he will need to go to a refuge or a sanctuary.

You should check with the museums in your area and see if they are interested in him.  You might also want to contact a wildlife cordinator in your area.

Thanks for your answer. It was very helpful.

I would like to know though what you mean by "in captivity for a while", because I have had this turtle for eight months and it was a baby when I recieved it.

I meant that if you had just found it in the street, it could easily be returned to a pond.

If you have had it for a while, it has probably lost the natural ability to care for itself (finding food, protection, etc) and it cannot be returned to the wild.
