I have cancer-- and my 19 year old cat is having nerve problems, is almost blind, and seems to be suffering and has lost her energy and appetite. Now she's having little siezures and clawing at herself. No sign of fleas , no worms or obvious things--she's just old.
I just cannot afford to take her to a vet, and wondered if there is a painless way to euthannize her at home. Since I am ill, I have vicodin, and painkillers, valium and alprazolam available. A neighbor offered to "put her out of her misery" with a .22-- but I'm not comforable with that.

Is there a safe, painless way I can put Rosie "to sleep" at home?

Thank you for your compassion. I'd like to do this lone last thing for my friend.

I am sorry to hear about yours and your cat's situation.
I don't think anyone is going to be able to legally tell you how to euthanize your cat at home.
The one last thing you can do for your friend is to have humane euthanasia performed by a licensed veterinarian.
We go to great lengths in both medications and administration to make this process as painless and stress free for the animal as possible.
I am a firm beleiver that it is the last gift we can give an animal that has given us 19 years of affection.
Euthanasia is not cost prohibitive. Call your vet, tell them your medical and financial situation. Our first line in our oath is to relieve pain and suffering in animals, I am sure they will work with you.
