Question

house breaking a 4 yr. old male malti poo

Sent to Pet Experts October 12, 2004 10:02 a.m.

My friend gave me a 4 year old male maltese poodle, we have had him about 4 weeks. The first day he had a BM on the floor but since then we have walked him on schedule after eating and he had done wonderfully until yesterday he had another accident and again this morning? Is it difficult to train a dog of this age, i have not in the past with other pets have problems, but they have been puppies. He lived previously in a home with 2 other dogs that were not house broken. however we have a 7 year old male husky/shepherd who has always been house broken we adopted him at age 1 from an animal shelter. Help, can this cute little pooch be house broken? what will it take

Not at all and malteses are smart dogs, you just have to give him time to get used to his new house and routine. Just make sure you put him on a schedule of being fed twice a day then you can monitor when he should have to potty. When you take him outside say in a even low tone to go potty or do your buisness whatever you want to use. Repeat it in the same tone over and over until he goes then praise him like he hit the jackpot and I guarantee he will put 2 and 2 together and catch on quickly.
Good Luck with your new addition
